SaskMuniMaps is an interactive mapping system that provides municipal information in map and tabular form on population, expenditures, revenues, grants, assessment values, reserves, debt and uncollected revenues for the years 2002 to 2008.  The financial data is from the municipal financial statements contained in the Ministry's Municipal Financial Information System.  The population statistics are from the 1996, 2001 and 2006 Census.  The maps can be used as a resource and to compare municipalities.

Instructions

When you click on the map link a dropdown box will appear where you can select the map of your choice.

Once the map is displayed, you can choose the year you want to look at (only one year can be displayed at a time). Please note, in order to return to the dropdown box, click on the X (close button) in the upper right-hand corner, do not use the back arrow as the map service may timeout.

The toolbar on the left-hand side of the map screen provides tools to gather information from the maps.

Tools to search for information include:

  • identify button (which provides the map information on the municipality in a table below the map frame);
  • query button (which searches for municipalities based on defined conditions); and, the
  • find button (which finds specific municipalities).

Zoom-in, zoom-out and pan buttons are additional tools you can use.

The interface is designed to display map and tabular information simultaneously. The provincial overview map (the map in the upper left-hand corner of the map frame) can be removed by clicking on the toggle overview map button (which is the first button on the toolbar).

Both maps and table summaries can be printed via the map print button or by left-clicking on the table and selecting print. For more detailed instructions please see the  reference guide.

Since municipal names do not show on the population maps, use the identify button (reference guide) to get information regarding population of a particular municipality.

Some municipal data is missing, in particular, cities' data is missing because it is not contained in the Municipal Financial Information System. In the summer of 2010, 2008 financial information and three new maps were added as the project's development continues.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions for additional map themes to be added in the future, please e-mail muninfo@gov.sk.ca.

The information contained within the maps and tables is for informational purposes only, please see the disclaimer below.
